20 Good Takes from 2020
I know 2020 was a rough, horrible, disastrous, scary, incomparably uncertain, yet an unforgettable year for a lot of people. That said, I don’t want to come off as insensitive, out of touch, or tone deaf, but can we rejoice for the good that did come out of 2020? I know many people ended 2019 proclaiming “2020 vision” and that “2020 would be their year” (as are all years for people who say this); yet it was everything BUT! However, even in the midst of chaos, there is usually a silver lining. So, I just want to highlight some of the positives from 2020.
I had my rainbow baby! Now this was the absolute best part of the year for me and it happened before the pandemic even struck, thank God! I cannot imagine the possibility of having to go through labor and delivery without my husband by my side, especially not after looking back on how supportive and awesome he was!
Though I was able to take my full maternity leave, I was granted approval to start back working sooner once everyone was sent home to work remotely.
In May, I was offered a new, higher paying, more fulfilling and more challenging job, that I never imagined I would find in this area.
My husband and I purchased our first home together! Because of the pandemic, interest rates were low and we were not the only ones in our circle who benefited from this economic adjustment. We have quite a few friends who were also able to purchase a new home in 2020 and some who were able to refinance to get their interest rates lowered. Honestly, purchasing a home was an ultimate goal of ours, but it wasn’t necessarily a goal for 2020; God’s plans far exceeded our own!
I was able to read (and listened to one) 30 books! This was a goal I set to reach by my 30th birthday which was on December 25th. I missed the mark by a few days, but what’s important is that I consumed a total of 30 books, periodt!
I was still able to see a lot of my friends and family throughout the year. Safely of course!
Many of us got “free” money from the government! What I am referring to here folks is the stimulus check. I really wish it could have been a lot more for people who really needed it (seriously) and it sucks it took a crisis for us to get some reparations (facetiousness), but gee, thanks anyway. It was better than nothing!.
There were nationwide protests for the senseless killings of black people that not only got the attention of America, but of the whole world and then evoked positive policy changes in our government. I think the world finally understood why we say BLACK LIVES MATTER!
With the help of my husband, I got my dream car!
Went on a trip with my girls to celebrate my 30th birthday!
Everybody’s student loan payments got deferred! *breaks out in a praise dance* Now let’s work on getting them forgiven altogether Joey 👀 Any takers?
We made “you about to lose your job” a reality for President 4-5. (P.S. If you aren’t familiar with the “you about to lose yo’ job,” reference, please do your Googles and get yourself a good laugh! 😂)
I created and officially published my blog. Two of my older, first cousins also published their blogs in 2020. It is to their credit that I give my inspiration for coming out of my shell and sharing some things I've either wanted to share for years or have wrote about in private previously.
Someone I used to be really close friends with started back communicating with me, after years of us not speaking to each other.
Witnessed and was a part of the big day when one of my closest friends married the love of her life.
As a society we innovated new ways to collaborate with, check on or check in with, work with, and celebrate and with each other in virtual environments!
My baby had his first Christmas, which was my 30th birthday, and my parents visited to enjoy it all with us in our new home!
My husband and I found out that some of our friends are finally expecting (oh baby)!
If you’re reading this, you obviously didn’t succumb to that nasty virus who shall remain nameless in this post! You’re alive, celebrate that!
We made it through and out of 2020 and into 2021! That’s enough to shout about in itself!
2020 took a lot from all of us in so many ways, but instead of focusing on the negative, I decided to focus on all of the good that still came out of 2020. I pray EVERYONE has a better 2021 than 2020 was for the majority.
Happy New Year ✨
